Whether The Damage Is To A Home, Business, Or Even Hotel, SERVPRO Is Here For You

Hotels have incredible plumbing and piping systems that must be maintained. These systems have to be very reliable to service guests 24/7. Hotel maintenance have a huge task repairing rusty pipes and maintaining the overall system in order to insure it is running efficiently. Most new hotels don't have the headache of maintaining these intricate systems because the systems have just been installed by engineers.

However, situations and mistakes happen that even the most competent engineers can't avoid. Recently SERVPRO of Floyd County was dispatched to a new hotel in downtown Louisville that had been open for less than a year. The engineers of the hotel had called in regards to a pipe on the second floor that has busted open at a glued joint. They had determined that a bad batch of plumbers glue had been used and compromised the strength of the bond.

Due to the massive amount of pressure used to force water to the higher floors the joint failed. The aftermath of the pipe being compromised left the hotel with over 2 inches of water on the first and second floors. SERVPRO's crews spent hours extracting water and setting up drying equipment to make sure the proper drying procedures were taking place.

Call to SERVPRO of Floyd County For Remediation Removing Commercial Mold Damage

3/30/2022 (Permalink)

When commercial mold damage strikes a Louisville business service it can close doors to clients who need to receive inventory, pay bills, and/or make payments to support their customer base.

SERVPRO technicians understand that a rapid response is important, and thorough cleaning and removal of the mold is the only way to keep the business open for the long run.

Our team starts by isolating the mold from the rest of the structure. This action prevents further contamination and allows technicians to begin cleaning mold off surfaces almost immediately. In most situations, they can remove most infestations with dry sponges and a mild, anti-fungal cleaning agent. For thicker layers of mold discovered behind walls or overhead, SERVPRO specialists use a stronger cleaning agent to break them up.

Our SERVPRO technicians can also utilize "soda-blasting," to gently abrade thin layers of mold from hard surfaces like raw wood. In customer areas, mold often affects tiles in drop ceilings and penetrates drywall. With both types of building material, it is cheaper, and faster, to remove and replace the affected pieces instead of expending the labor and material costs to attempt cleaning. Depending on the size of the affected room, team members can dispose of the material in a day or two with replacement taking about the same amount of time.

At SERVPRO of Floyd County we want to support every business so they can support our community. If your business has mold, or if there was recent flooding and you can detect that telltale ‘musty’ odor in your facility, call us!

When The New Year Brings In New Troubles, SERVPRO Is Here to Help

1/23/2022 (Permalink)

The University of Louisville suffered a massive water loss just before New Years Eve when a sprinkler head in a dormitory on the fourth floor froze and burst.  Water seeped down all four floors causing serious damage to all rooms and hallways.  The damage proceeded through multiple buildings that are connected.

SERVPRO of Floyd County was on scene quickly to begin the packout, demo, and dryout of the facility.  Our crews worked with a moving company to remove all of the students contents.  Once the rooms were clear of personal contents our crews worked to remove furniture, drywall, baseboard, ceiling tiles, and flooring so that the dryout process could begin.

With the help of a desiccant, dehumidifiers, and air movers the facility was able to start the drying process. Once the drying process is complete the facility will be turned over to the reconstruction crew.  Upon the completion of the put back SERVPRO will begin the post construction cleaning of all surfaces and duct work so that the facility is ready for the students to move back in.  We truly make it "Like it never even happened."

Commercial Fires: Something totally the same, and totally different!

10/10/2021 (Permalink)

Each year the National Fire Protection Association produces a National Survey to record data and statistics on reported fires throughout the United States.

According to the 2005 survey data, 130,000 non-residential fires were reported last year resulting in approximately $2.5 billion in property damages and loss. Commercial fires are a growing concern not only to employers and employees, but also to property managers and the insurance industry. Commercial fires generally result in a higher monetary loss amount than a typical house fire. According to reports entitled, "Topical Fire Research Series, Volume 3-Issue 10", non-residential structures are often more expensive because the buildings are generally larger than residential structures and the contents of the structure are of higher value.

Commercial fires may affect a facility with a lot of square footage, equipment, products and technology, not to mention important data. contracts and customer records.

Frozen or not, water can cause issues in your home or business

8/14/2021 (Permalink)

Water damage is one of the most frequent causes of damage to residential and commercial buildings in Floyd County. In addition to plumbing failures caused by leaking pipes or appliances, drain back ups or outside water, we often experience winter temperatures that can freeze water lines.

Frozen water lines expand and crack, leaking water until the source is discovered and turned off. Perhaps the most common frozen pipe issue comes from hose bibs and exterior faucets. Disconnecting hoses before cold weather hits is important, but even disconnected hose bibs can freeze. “Frost-free” faucets only work if installed properly, and maintaining adequate heat and insulation is key.

If you experience an unexpected water intrusion in your home or business, SERVPRO of Floyd County is the one call you need to make to ensure that skilled technicians, equipped with top of the line drying equipment and procedures respond to your loss immediately.

At SERVPRO we are experienced with every type of water damage, from the smallest clean water drip in your home to the largest Category 3 commercial water damage. We have IICRC trained technicians and project managers on stand by to assist you, whatever your water damage situation. We offer turn-key service in the Floyd County area – from emergency mitigation services, drying and full repair services.

Fire damage at local nonprofit facility

7/15/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Floyd County was ready to respond when a local nonprofit experienced a small fire in their physical therapy room at their convalescence center. This part of the building provides care for children who are in need of short-term, long-term, and respite care. Understanding the need of urgency to get the job started as quickly as possible, SERVPRO responded to the medical facility within the hour.  The fire was caused by a fluorescent light bulb that short circuited in the ballast. Luckily, one of the medical staff members was able to grab a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Unfortunately, the room was filled with soot and carcinogens from the extinguisher. Knowing that most of the children at the facility have breathing difficulties, time was of the essence to get the room cleaned and sanitized.  A crew of 10 utilized Chem-Sponges, HEPA vacuums, SERVPRO oxide and much to clean and sanitize the area. The team cleaned all medical equipment and touch points on site and then utilized our Esporta machine offsite to clean all soft content items from the facility. We placed two air scrubbers with charcoal filters and one hydroxyl generator on site for 5 days to assist with the odors and pathogens.  Once the job was complete the facility was able to reopen and resume much needed physical therapy for the children in need. At SERVPRO we pride ourselves in the work we are able to provide and the people we are able to help. "Like it never even happened."

Commercial Water Loss

3/9/2020 (Permalink)

Do you know what the process looks like to get your business back to normal after a water loss?

Although it is not something most people ever consider, water damage can happen, and it can cause considerable damage if not treated promptly. If you find a pool of water in your building, you will need to take immediate action to minimize damage to your property. As a business owner in Floyd County, you may want to hire a professional remediation company to clean up the mess. Here are several things that must happen to get your business back to normal.

1. Stop the Flow of Water The most important thing you can do to minimize the damage is to stop the flow of water. You can do this by shutting off the main water valve.

2. Extract the Water Now that you have stopped the water flow, you can see how much water there is left to clean up. If it is only a little, you may be able to use a towel or mop to clean up the moisture. However, if it is more than a little, you may need to hire a professional remediation company to extract the water using specialized equipment.

3. Determine the Extent of the Water Damage Water can easily seep between cracks and into porous surfaces. This can lead to problems in drywall, subfloors, and other materials. A moisture meter can be used to identify water inside these areas.

4. Remove Unsalvageable Items There may be some objects that have sustained enough water damage that they will need to be replaced. These items can be identified and removed before the drying process begins.

5. Dry the Area It is important to dry out the area as quickly as possible so that mold does not have a chance to form. Professional drying equipment can be used to speed up this process.

If something like this ever does happen and you do need professional help, don't wait to give SERVPRO of Floyd County County. We will make it "Like it never even happened."
